I really dislike the short hunt coat style

So, here I am watching the WEG. I used to jump big time and have always been a traditionalist when it came to attire.

I am seeing the newer styles of coats and just HATE them They are so short! Some are just a few inches below the waist line. Some are so short that there is no attempt at having any vents in the back.

I just think they are so unflattering to the riders. Heck, I don't want to see the rider's butt sticking out, or see what style of belt they are wearing either.

I love the flow and grace of a longer well cut coat.

BTW, Yeah, I know the coat I'm wearing in my avatar was a bit short, too. I had no choice on that coat and I hated it.

RJ Classics Platinum Soft Shell Hunt Coat from SmartPak Equine

These coats are just ugly, IMHO.

What do you think?

Yeah, I know....the coat I am wearing in my avatar is short, too. I had no choice on that coat and I hated its length.

Allison, agree!

Even on very fit riders, they're unflattering. I love the old hunting style frock coats, and my show coats were also the double vented type so that the back of the coat fell neatly over the cantle of the saddle.

Yup, I think the coats you linked to are 3" to short.

Can you post a picture of the kind of coats you DO like? I'm not sure what you're talking about, the ones you posted look "normal" to me! :D I've always been taught that the coat should cover about the top half of your butt. The RJ Classics one you posted is quite a few inches lower then the waistline and has quite a bit of vent...

I couldn't find a good pic of the coats I am seeing in the showjumpers at the WEG. They are short to the extreme.

I hate having my picture taken at shows, so I have precious few, now. I regret that, by the way....Here is one taken at a CDI-W not too long ago.

I think these coats add grace to the rider....by not showing their crotch and butt. I know most current riders on the hunter show circles are very used to seeing the short short coats, so think them "normal." I have been away from showjumping for a good while, so I am not used to it and find them extremely unattractive and unflattering.

I like the longer jackets but it seems like they are getting harder to find. I bought this jacket only a few months ago and wished it covered more of my butt....very self concious about how wide it is getting....

LOL @ Velvet!

I don't ride huntseat but I can say, the longer coat just looks more professional. More streamline. Less "Look at my lovely hiney that is covered by next to nothing"

Malin Baryard Johnsson wears extreme coats at the WEG. The coats here are longer than she wore there.

Hmmm...I always think of hunt seat and most english disciplines as being "classy". Nothing screams "classy" like seeing someones belly button as they jump!

i dont like the short coats either, i like the last one on the girl with the halflinger, but i also REALLYY like the look of shadbellies :)
