If you're just relying on your hands to ask the horse to turn, that's not good. You HAVE to have control of the horse's SHOULDER to turn, not the nose. It doesn't matter if you pull 'till you're blue in the face, because a horse can always bulge their shoulder out and follow that instead of their nose. Make sure you're asking with your rein, and blocking that shoulder with your leg aids. I would stick with a simple snaffle - of better yet a french link - and work on what's wrong rather than switching bits; this will just "cover" the problem. When your horse won't even turn, it's a problem with training, not the bit. (I am not attacking you, or saying that you don't know how to train, this is what I would say to anyone with your problem.) |
