Dont want to come off as a pedophile, but...
So the coggins was delayed on my Casanova, and he won't be arriving for another week. Sad. Still, I already have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off and I wanted to spend one of those days with him, just getting to know him, brushing him, etc, despite the 2 hour drive.
However, hubby is working and I hate driving by myself, and I haven't made many friends in this new town, and none that share even so much as an interest in horses. So I started thinking about my teen years, and how blessed I was to know horses, and just wondered if there were any teenage girls that would want to learn how to work with and take care of horses. Id really just like the companionship, and with my only younger sibling living across the country, I always felt like I missed out on being a big sister.
So where the heck do I go about finding a younger person like that? Everybody I know has kids in the 4 - 5 age and younger, and id be afraid of them accidentally spooking my colt or just finding some way to get hurt or in trouble. Id feel like a creepy pedophile if I asked around for some kid to make 2 hour drives with me this weekend, haha.

Haha, I'd post an ad on craigslist to be honest. I'd look for someone in high school that shows the interest in horses, but doesn't have the opportunity to have one. I'd also introduce yourself to their parents. Another option is to even put an ad on there for someone your age to share the hobby with. Maybe somedays they go to your place, and somedays you go to theirs.
Try posting something at vet offices and feed stores. They usually have a place for folks to post need/have type notes.
There are lots of kids in 4-H that dont have horses. I was one a LONG time ago, and someone was kind enought to teach me like your describing. Many parents wont go through the expense of buying or leasing to 'see' if the kids really wants to do it. I very much appriciate Julie for teaching me.
you don't seem pedofil-ish at all! I love going places with my trainer, just doing ramdom horse stuff. I love being around them and do not have my own yet so I am happy for an opportunity to go anywhere with her!
Just keep your ears out..maybe ask around if you have any friends with teenagers or cousins..etc.
I agree with regan..no pedofil-ishness. Why don't you post an ad on CL or if your local feed and pet supply has areas you can posts ads then put an ad up. Tell them that this will teach them responsibilty and maybe you can give the riding basics?
I hangout with a 12 year old and I'm 21. She's really cool and is into horses. I'm friends with her mom too. I don't think I come off as a pedo. I ask her for help with horsey stuff and whatnot. Oh and these little 8 year old kids in 4-H help me too =D It's funny cause they are so nice about it and not stuck up. Maybe you can go to your local fairgrounds and post an ad there too? OR maybe you could start a club!
Alot of people advertise on the internet for people like you should be easy to find
