Today's Ride on Scotch
So today I rode Scotch after doing a bunch of groundwork--the first 5 Parelli games along with a bit of lunging. He was awesome! :D He is getting really sensitive when I ask him to turn--I don't really need to use the reins much anymore. If I look in the direction I want him to go, and shift my weight slightly, he turns. Also, if I say "whoa" he stops--no need to touch the reins.
I have been riding him in his rope halter and tying his lead rope into a loop for reins. I'm thinking of purchasing a used rope hackamore so I don't need to stop to tie and untie all the time. It's funny...I had to go to all of the trouble to find a bridle that fit his massive head, spend a ton of money, and he goes best in his $25 halter..go figure!
We are having trouble with side-passing (both on the ground and in saddle). I don't have a straight fence that isn't electric to practice with. I do have 3 extra round pen panels we could use, but I don't think they would stand up alone. Any suggestions?
