So I find that riding Western (I learned primarily in English but Shadow is Western) at least, I do better with Out stirrups. Anyways, posting in stirrups I have noticed a bit of an issue lately. When I go up, my feet go Out! I think it may be due to one or more of a few things: after not riding in ages my inner thigh/leg muscles are def weak, I am used to Emglish and in comparison the W saddle seems SO thick PLUS Shadow is most definitely Fat making he whole get up under my legs extra wide. Being extra wide makes it more difficult to keep my legs squeezed together. Lol I also have a bad ankle which I think is part of why I do better without stirrups.
Other than practice, and strengthening my legs, what can I do to improve this?

The problem isn't that I lose my stirrups, I mean like my lower legs splay outwards, away from the horse's body. Like my inner thighs aren't strong enough to pull my legs in while pushing up so it is like a jumping jack haha I post up, my legs stick out, I sit back down, my legs come back in. :roll: I think the reason it is easier w/o stirrups is partially because I don't have to put weight on my bad ankle. And in stirrups, I do feel like I point my toes more than my heels. :oops: Something about having the stirrup bar under my feet makes me want to push into it...and point my toes. BUT, disregarding the pointed toes, what about my legs going out? Will keeping my heels down more help with that you think? I am definitely working on my heels - it has always been one of my biggest weaknesses/flaws in my riding.
