Tall and Riding Ponies
Hey, I know there is a lot of people out there that are tall and ride ponies, I being 5' 9" and growing and ride anything from 13hh to 18hh. The smaller were a brother Mackie and sister Chadoe haflingers. Chadoe wouldn't let anyone near her, but three years ago I was more than happy to put on her driving bridle or half the work harness and go. My legs are 34 inches long and it didn't bother me one bit to gallop off in the snow with her.:D I am even thinking of buying her only daughter (weanling) who might grow to 13.3hh if she's lucky. Whats your story with the shorter side of the equine family?

Most ponies are incredibly strong and can carry just as much as a horse can, but personally I would never buy anything under 15hh nowadays, as I'm 13 and 5'9 1/2"....and still growing. I prefer a horse who my legs reach the right place, so my legs can give the correct aids without the horse having to learn to accomodate to them. JMO

Yeah I was this tall when I was 13 too, I am a little over 18 now and like I said growing. this ponies were the med/draft style haflinger so my feet might have reached just below their stomachs, and bareback my feet hung just under. Most of my riding was done on ponies between 13 and 14.1 hh up to two years ago. most people over horse themselves, or believe that you have to ride tall or not at all. To me I could careless, it helps I weight very little for my height.
