Does anyone else enjoy riding bareback as much as I do? I've only ridden Rosie 3 times bareback(4 if you count when her old owner led her back to her paddock with me on her) but I've only had her a week :). I have really only ridden bareback about 5 times in my life but it is sooo much fun!! I actually trotted today!! I took her all the way around the arena! It was so cool :). I can't wait to start cantering and jumping bareback :D. I think Rosie enjoys it more too, she isn't exactly a GO type of horse but I just click to her when I am bareback and she immediatly trots. Of course our old western roping saddle weighs like 50 lbs so she problably likes the relief on her back :). Do you guys use a bridle or just a halter when you ride bareback? What about a bareback pad? I have used a halter and I have used a bridle but I don't have a bareback pad. Anyway, just wanted to share and see if anyone else enjoys this hobby or if I'm just wierd like that :P

Bareback is FUN! I spent a summer bareback- 3 months of no saddle good fun! It really improved my seat as well, now I get constant compliments saying that my seat is amazing :). I go with a bridle and no bareback pad, well that's what I did with my old *comfy* bareback horse! With my new horsey... well... he needs some weight so even with a cushy bareback pad it hurts! lol
I love bareback...

I have had my 21 year old gelding for 6 1/2 years now. I have owned 2 saddles in that time and both where only ridden about 4 times each and thats just when I wanted to show off my mad english or western skills(lol not good at riding at all!). If you stick me in a saddle i can pronmise I will be on the ground within 15 minutes tops. I hate saddles!!!! Me and my buddy just love to go all natural! I have a dr. cooks bitless bridle that i ride in. i do ride with a bit when he has a tude problem or we are going somewhere new, but if we are just putsing around the indoor i will just use my halter with 2 leads tied for reins. I LOVE BAREBACK RIDING!!!!!!!!!!!! i will never do anything else. i don't like bareback pads either. i just love the feeling of the horse under me!!!!!!!

I love riding bareback. I used to ride my mare bareback at least 3 or 4 times a week and always cooled her out bareback. It is so good for your seat! Believe it or not cantering is easier than trotting bareback.

I love bareback! For the last 3 months that is all I have done. And I have been better for it. I got trotting down well bareback and wanted to lope. However in the saddle I'd be all off balance and hanging on desperatly to the horn. I finally got up the courage to try it bareback and it was wonderful!! So easy and just like flying. I have fallen off a few times but that was more my fault like stopping her too fast and me falling off or just not concentrating on my balance.
I don't use a pad and I usually just use a halter and two ropes. I really trust Berdi!

wow!! I want to go 3 months with no saddle! lol! I was riding bareback on thursday but my dad insisted on using a saddle cause I would "have more control". Yeah right, I'd have more control over the 1/2 ton creature underneath me if I strapped a hunk of leather to her rather than riding her the way she perfers, that makes sense!! Silly parents :P! I can't wait to try cantering, my brother got her to canter for the first time under saddle(that I know of) and she is so beautiful, except he like almost fell off lol! I can see how it would be good for your seat to ride bareback though cause I have to work at keeping my balance and not tipping forwards to grab onto her neck, lol! DO you guys just swing up or do you stand on something? I have to stand on a salt block, put one leg on her back, jump, and then once all my weight is on her, pull myself into a sitting position. All that to get on my 15hh girl!! I really need to work out, lol!! Is it really hard to jump bareback? I think I would REALLY feel like I was flying if we did that!!! Oooh I can hardly wait!!! :D

I love bareback riding. I've spent a long time doing it, to the point that I can basically do anything bareback that I can do with a saddle. It took awhile to get the thigh strength. I had very sore legs when I was getting used to it. Now, I can gallop on my mare bareback and even run barrels ;)

For sure! When my mare starts trotting too fast, I urge her into a canter for relief haha

I love riding bareback. <3 All through the winter we ride in the top pasture and in the indoor bareback, don't bother to put a saddle insincere we aren't going on the trails or running any patterns.
And I love jumping bareback. :3 It would probably ruin my seat if I rode English for jumping, since my feet end up more than 45 degrees out, but I'll deal with that when the time comes. :p
I'm actually excited for winter to come, just so I can get more comfortable bareback again.
After last winter, when we started actually doing things outside and less in the indoor, I wanted to ditch the saddle soo bad, haha. It just felt so wierd and I felt off! But it's all good, nows the time to get back into bareback. <3

I only just recently started riding my horse bareback, only done it twice now and its soo much fun, the first time I jumped on him bareback it felt really werid but now even after the second time I am used to it, nothing big like 30cm.
I havnt cantered yet but that will be soon
I only use my halter and attach reins, I wanted to get used to his trot as it is very bouncy even with a saddle and didnt want to yank on his mouth
