What is he made for?
Take a look at this photo of Citrus from February. It is the only side view I have of him. Here is what I see.... his back goes on for miles, which makes him excellent for riding double! He has low knees and low hock joints. His neck ties in low, thick throat latch. The slope of his shoulder suggests a rough trot, yet he is very smooth and western pleasury, which makes me think that the muscular shoulder does much of the work. While I do want to know, I really want to know in the nicest way possible- he is my horse love..... Okay.... here we go! (Keep in mind he is nearly 16hh so he is a big guy all around)
Oh and he is a late June baby, so in this photo, he was only four.
Just looking at him, I would say he would make an excellent ranch/using horse (but then again, that is always the first thing I look for LOL). With those long legs, he might make a decent jumper, I don't know.
Lol.... he won't jump- he looks at me like I gave him the strangest suggestion ever when I aim him towards cross rails while doing ground work :) He does have an amazing extended trot though.
I really really like him! He has such an intelligent, alert expression and a nice neck and shoulders! Good looking man!
Thank you :)
Very nice looking horse! :)
He looks like he would be a great ground work horse, or a trail horse. But, I would say ground work horse, or flat horse would suit him best.
Not as odd looking as you make him out to be, not by far. Pretty average to me. Long backed horses are often really smooth because that long back is "soft" for the rider. Just help him stay strong in his belly muscles to keep his back up. Up/down hill, over logs/cavalettis, walk/trot transitions, backing up up a hill . . ..
Cute face and kind of an aura of friendliness about him.
We do reverses up and down hills and have started adding one pole to the ground work. You are correct that he has a friendliness about him.
Nice looking horse, but I agree he'd be better as a flat horse with his build. Once he fills in a bit more, he'll be quite the looker. Very nice head. His back, while a little long, probably won't seem so long once he gets the rest of his bulk.
The only thing I notice is that he's built a little downhill (his hindquarters higher than his withers)
