Using someone else's indoor arena?

I've been wanting to ask the owner at one of the local barns if she has considered allowing outside people to use her indoor arena. It isn't a super nice arena, but it is better than riding out in my pasture since I do not have an arena. What I am mostly interested in though is using it during the winter when the ground is frozen and/or when there is snow.

I was wondering what you guys think of this? Is it acceptable or intrusive? For you barn owners here, what would you think of someone using your arena? Do you charge a fee? How should I go about asking?

Any response or opinion is appreciated! :)

I know it depends on the place, but a lot of barns with indoors require you pay either board at their barn to use, or you pay everytime you use the arena. It'll add up quick. Talk to the owner about it and see what their ideas are, can't hurt to ask.

I don't have much extra money,i if I end up having to pay for each use I would probably not be able to do it, unfortunately.

Do you think that she would consider letting me work a little in exchange for some riding time?

It was $15 per use. But for just one day thats reasonable. The arena at the fair grounds is 25$ an hour.

Wow, I didn't know what I was getting into! :) thanks

It also depends on the place. That's generally a much nicer facility to charge such a price. If it's not a big show barn and is low profile.. they'll probably work out a deal with you. You circumstences may be very different from what we're talking about.

I used to keep my horse near a place with an indoor and they charged per use, but it ended up being cheaper just paying for the cheapest stable type thing. So I had a stable/yard but never used it - only used their facilities.

I've come across some places that charge $10/use and other's that will charge $50/month for unlimited (well, as long as you are respectful obviously) use.
