How do I draw this?
SO. Long story short...I'm drawing this girl's horse, and she's giving me $5 [she offered!]
ANYWAYS. I'm utterly stumped on how to proceed with the mane. I don't like the forelock, I'll probably change it. There are bits I need to fix, but since I did this in my Mythology class, I couldn't really whip out my phone and look at the reference picture.
The drawing as of 5 minutes ago:
[Ignore what look like smudges..I write myself little notes]
aaaand the reference picture:
[Having some MAJOR troubles with this picture]
Help? I don't know where to begin with the mane.
Also...if you see anything else that you wanna critique on feel free to do so :D
Erm... I have no idea because even my stick figures look bad, but I figured I would throw my two cents in and say the forelock looks fine to me.
I actually really like the forelock, very life like.
You could draw the mane the same way you did the forelock.
So far you are doing a great job. I like the forelock.
Not sure how to explain this...draw exactly what you see. Forget it's a mane; it's just an area that is lighter in some parts and darker in other. Make it dark where it's dark and light where it's light.
thanks, guys! I want to give this to her tomorrow [only time all week I see her and has to be done before November] so I want to finish it. I get out of school 15 min early tomorrow so I'll do it then.
i just HATE hair like that. -_- Especially at the angle it's at, it's all poofy and I won't be able to make it look good. Grr.
I can see why you'd have trouble drawing the mane in that picture, but I have to say that everything else looks wonderful!
I think that maybe part of the problem is that the neck is too thin. The line you have outlining the top of the neck could be redrawn so that the horse has more muscle. If you just changed that one line, the proportions in the neck would fall into place.
Good luck! The drawing so far really is fantastic!
thanks! I redrew the top of the neck to beef it up a little more, and it's officially done! I'm taking it out to the barn in about 30 minutes, we'll see how she likes it :)
How do u shade so well?? I might post some of my drawings...hmm....
