String Test- Accurate?

Hey guys!

I didn't know where to put this - but I figured here is as good as anywhere!!

I string tested my 2 year old, 15.3 OTTB. I did it multiple times like they say to get an average - and every time it was between 17.0 and 17.2 hands!! WOOHOO!! I am thinking 17.2 is stretching it - that would mean 7 more inches. I am guessing she will end up 16.3, 17.0.

I was just wondering if anyone else had done this with their two year olds - and how accurate it was. I was playing with the adult horses and it was fairly accurate - usually right on or an inch or so off. I hope its right - I would love for her to to be that tall!!

I don't think it's very accurate in all situations. For example they say horses are grown 97% (I believe) by 2, which is not true at all. However I measured mine with the string when I got them as yearlings. People kept telling me they'll be tiny (as they were very undersized). The string measurements gave 14'3 & 15. They are 14'3 straight and 15'1+ now (they are 6, so done with height).

it also depends on breed.. TBs tend to normally grow most of their height btwn 2&3 looking at ur girl and she's already 15.3 id say prob 16.2 at most but it helps if u know the parents height as well
