Tomorrow after school, Mom and I are going to buy hay and hopefully a new lungeline. I should be lunging Blu.
Does anyone have any suggestions to share? Or what would be good to do if Blu acts up again? It is highly appreciated.
Any obstacle or groundworking suggestions for after warm-up?
Poles. :) Trot poles. Lots and lots of them.
What has Blu been doing to act up? Appearantly I'm out of the loop...
Sorry, JDI, he's been bucking, nipping, kicking, and just basically treating me like a little mare.
Anyhow, the lunging went far better than expected. It took a while for Blu to come down. When he got over-excited and tried to run off with me, I stopped him and used T-touch circles on his neck(counter-clockwise massage for relaxation). As soon as he calmed we started again. He learned my commands quickly: Whoa, Trot, Walk On, Step Up, etc.
I started some trot poles after lots of trotting and lunge work. He did excellent during his cirlces as soon as he got his groove! He tripped a little on the trot poles so I just said in a calm voice, "Know where your feet are. Easy. Steady." His ears flickered. It was just like join-up. When he asked me if he could stop, by licking his lips, I let him rest for a minute while I did more T-touch.
He tried to run off with me a few times but I just kept him going and it all worked out nicely. He broke a little sweat. But after a while he kept his head lowered and he was very good. :-D
Glad you had a good training session with him!
lol. Thanks! I had a great time and I think we bonded more! :-D I'd much rather do this that go to soccer practice Mon., Wed., and Fri. (I signed up to be with my friends-haven't played in to years). I remembered why. I don't like soccer and I just CAN'T play. lol. Oh well. At least I will have weekends and Tues. and Thurs. I guess.
Yay pole trotting. I love having my horse trot poles, it helps prevent tripping, IMO, when you are out on the trails because they learn to watch their feet not only that it gets them thinking instead of going "trot... this is fun.." :)
I am hoping Mom will let me get out of practice early. At LEAST thrity minutes early because we practice for two hours. But I really want to work with Blu again today.
The command he learned the quickest was when I said, "Away." And he just stepped right away on like the fifth direction change we did. Afterwards I gave him handful of hay, he still showed little respect for me around his food but it was more than the usual and I'm glad for that!
I pray that Mommy let's me get out early!!! Wish me luck. lol.
