Rubber or no Rubber???
I have decided that I am the most interested in a Full Cheek Snaffle. Any comments on that?

Anyhow, I am trying to decide whether or not to have rubber. Blu has a medium mouth...not soft but not hard...and his gums are a little sensitive. I need suggestions again.

The happy mouth is actually not rubber, it's kind of a plastic. It's not quite as hard as metal but it's not nearly as soft as rubber. I find a lot of horses really like it! I would choose this bit for a lot of horses. If Blu has a medium mouth I'd say it's a great choice. I like rubber bits for horses who have very sensitive mouths or to start horses with. I also like the little middle roller piece. Some snaffles when they bend in half poke horses in the roof of their mouths (depending on the horse's mouth shape and certain snaffles), this third piece will keep it from doing that. The copper roller bit you have is a good bit too, esp if he likes to play with stuff in his mouth. If he doesn't really care you don't need the rollers.

I would say if Blu chomps on his bit, that the Happy Mouth bit would be out. It could make dents and stuff on the bit and that could cause him pain.
The other bit looks like a nice bit. That would be good if he likes to play or chomp on his bit.

I'm not sure if you're interested, but I got Vega a Myler bit. It has 3 pieces so it doesn't have the nutcracker action and she really does like it. It also has some sort of metal that makes the horse salivate and help them soften to the bit. They are a little pricey, but i feel it was really work it. They also have different level bits, but i just went by what i thought Vega should have (i got her a low port eggbutt) Myler does have a copper roller full cheek.

I didn't buy Vega's bit from Dover Saddlery. I forget where, but it was like $10 cheaper. I'll go through some things and see if I can find out where i got it from, if you're interested

Blue, it depends on horse a lot. Some hate the taste, some really like it. My neighbor changed to happy mouth on her ottb, and she said he does much better in it.

It all depends on the horse. Do you happen to know anyone who has the bit you want to get. Try it out and see what your horse sais.

Blu doesn't 'chomp' on his bit that I know of. Unless it's not fitted right oor something anyway. Blu likes rollers. I wanted to find a dee ring or full cheek with a roller and rubber at the sides.

I also don't want to have to buy another bit if one doesn't work.

I really like both bits but I am still going to look around. :-)

Another question: what's the point/job of a Mullen mouth?
