Whats Wrong with me!!
So basically last time I rode a horse was late October! I use to ride everyday and always want to go. The last horse I had (whom I sold do to danger behaviour) was a horse that would continuously buck.
I am terrified of bucking horses, always have been, but I have never actually given up like I did with this one. He was a 16.3hh OTTB 4yrs old. I understand horses go through stages of "meaness" and definately his 4th yr was one of them.
We sold him because he started going after the broodmare(which no horse has ever had the courage to do) while she had a foal by her side and in foal.
I think the issue with him deterred me from riding. My fear of bucking simplely increased with this horse.
We now have this 6yrs Standardbred mare (currently racing) that I am being encouraged to start with. She is a bit of a diva...hates the girth being done up or having her udders cleaned but generally is a sweet mare.
I plan on starting her in the spring as we have no where to really ride in the winter. Does anyone have any words of encouragement or ways to get over my fear of bucking? Ive never been scared of riding in my 16 yrs of doing it but after my last horse I am a bit skeptical...any help?
I think if you try to build a bond with the new mare it will help. Try to gain some trust in her and just start out slow. I'm having sort of the same problem with getting my confidence back. I do trust my horse though and that makes a huge difference. Not all horses are bucking broncos, if this mare is as sweet as you say I'm sure she will take care of you. Just start out slow and get as much saddle time on her as you can. Good luck with it and remember there is nothing wrong with a little fear, just don't let it rule your life.
