Hoof completely falling off?
First, NO I don't have a horse this is happening too, so no one freak out okay? Haha. I was just doing some reading and came across one sentence that said basically "the horse's hoof separated and fell off." Is this even possible?! Not just like a chip or crack but is it possible for a horse to lose it's entire hoof wall and not have to be put to sleep because of it? I never thought it could even happen, if it is possible what would cause such a thing?

It is possible. I've seen the pics (I believe that was either on Fugly's blog or on website of one of our local rescues). It's ugly that's all I gonna say. I don't quite remember, but I believe laminitis can cause it if left untreated and in same conditions.

Yes it's possible, it was happening to my horse awhile back. Her hoof started to come off, but she was also real sick and old and we had to put her down.

I believe there was also a thread here where someone posted photos of a horse at a rescue that this happened to.
