Western to English...
I'm getting a horse who was a racehorse, then an English pleasure horse, and is now a Trail horse. He has been ridden Western for around 10 years with little Girl Scouts. I am going to ride English. Are there any tips anyone has on how to re-convert a horse? He direct reins, but his head is low and I want it higher. Any tips??? Anything would be appreciated!
If he has already been ridden English, don't worry about him having to re-adjust to the equipment unless he's a really sensitive horse.
As for the headset, you kind of have to re-train it all over again; when he puts his head too low, ask him forwards and upwards with your legs, then quit bugging him as soon as he puts his head where you want it. You want to use more leg than hand with a horse that's putting his head down.
Okay! That's a lot of help. I will put pictures on here of him as soon as I actually buy him. He's not mine yet.
