Riding after injuries (long)
I'm not really sure where to put this, so if it needs to be moved please do so. Back in January I sprained the ligament in the top of my foot. Went to the er and was put in a cast for six weeks. Doctor gave me the go ahead to come over to South Korea as soon as the cast came off. No physical therapy suggestions or anything. After about 5 more months of my foot still hurting I went to the dr over here. Come to find out I have the beginning stages of arthritis in my foot. Physical therapy was the recommendation this time. Gotta love Korean doctors. :D Anyway, fast forward to this past weekend. Foot has been fine for about a month or a little longer. So, I decided to be brave (or stupid when I look back at it) and went skiing for the first time in my life. It was at an indoor ski resort, really neat. Biggest issue was the snow/ice that we were skiing on. It got torn up pretty bad. I was going down the hill pretty fast, I couldn't get stopped, so I decided to make a slight turn to help me slow down. When I did that I hit a very mushy patch of snow. Down I went. I couldn't tell you which way was up I flipped and spun so much. Ended up hurting my knee. Didn't go to the dr right away. Probably should have. Finally saw a dr on Monday. Most likely have a grade 2 torn mcl. I can walk on it, but can't do much else. I know it will take some time to heal, but has anyone had this kind of injury, and had any problems riding after that? I will be coming back to the States for a month in May, and really want to ride. I just don't know if this kind of injury will affect my riding or not. What do you guys think?

The only thing that sucks about a bad knee is, if you ride with a shorter stirrup for jumping or whatever, it locks up sooner than later. Might be a good time to take up dressage where there's hardly any bend in the leg. I had knee injury in 2006. This is the first year I have forgotten about it. It'll take time, but it will most likely heal to the point where it won't be an issue.

I tore up my right knee pretty bad. Dislocated patella, torn ligaments and all that fun stuff. A lot of physical therapy and eventually a big ole chunk of cowboy up and I was riding again. There are days it hurts more but that would be with anything I did.
Sorry you're hurt! Hope you feel better soon!
