recommended magazines What magazines, online or in print, would be suggested by ya'll? I'm an advanced beginner to intermediate rider (strictly english) - don't compete and am strictly into being a better rider and learning more about how to care for horses (i have six). As opposed to breeding, for example. I currently get Equus, Horse Illustrated, Practical Horseman and Dressage Today. thanks |
I'm an English rider, and get Young Rider. (Depending on how old u are) I really like them! |
I like the horse journal - they research lots of horse products and tell you what they found and which items they like best. Not 100% accurate all the time but does help take some of the guesswork on products. |

thanks crossover - i ordered it - $24 for the year. As you can tell, i love information! Unfortunately, i am way too old for Young Rider - lol. |
I absolutely LOVE Dressage Today...even though im not going to be competing in Dressage for a while, i am still keeping my subscription (my mom renews it every year for christmas) and it is full of great great great information. I used to get Horse Illustrated which was good too, and catered to the english and western rider. |
wow, my bad. i just read the rest of your post...and you get those. hehe, good deal then! :) |

Whoo! Practical Horseman! I love that magazine... you have a pretty good group! I would recommend The Horse. It's more about health, and vet-like stuff. So it keeps you informed about how to keep your horse from getting injured and how to treat stuff, etc from riding! |
I know you ride English, but a magazine that has a western baseline but is actually just plain horsemanship is "Ecclectic Horseman". It only comes out every two months. It is very unusual. You can check it out on their website of the same name. Very good articles about the anatomy and funtion of the horse by Dr. Deb Bennet. Many of these are especially cogent in terms of why and how the horse's neck should be stretch to best facilite true collection. |
