Move mane on one side
I know it's not the smartest question in world, but... :) How to move mane all on one side? My both mares have about half on one side, about half on other. They don't have extremely long mane, but its' not VERY short and I don't want to cut it really short.
I would ever cut my girls mane short! :D I love their long mane!
What I do to make it go on one side is just braid it into small sections. And then if you braids are still moving over to the other side band 5-7 of your braid sections together. It will then be too heavy to move back to the other side. I usually leave it in for a week or two, it looks terrible but after it's out it will be worth it..lol
Interesting.... Thanks, Fehr! I'll try it!
There is no stupid question! the only stupid thing is for you NOT to ask.
The easiest way to train the main to sit on one side is to do large braids on the side you choose (which technically should leaning to the right).
Leave them in for a a week or so.
Your welcome Kitten hope it works out for you!
I wet the mane, slather on some hair gel! And then braid it on the side you want. The gel works wonders!
I guess now one more question to ask... :) When I braid them how I keep them braided? Some kind of horsey hair holders?
Plaiting is definitely the way to go. If the mane is long enough, try a lattice plait, also known as a 'diamond' or 'trellis' plait.
It's really hard to find good pics of them, but google and you should get an idea!
Otherwise, I'd recommend a running plait.
Keep them in with braiding bands - tiny elastic bands you can buy at any tack shop. For a lattice plait you'll need quite a lot! And I'd definitely say plait with the hair slightly damp too.
They hold up pretty well.
Here's a pic of the diamond braid
 I just noticed how I automatically translated 'braid' into 'plait' without noticing! Hehe, sorry, but I found it funny.
And now I just realised the reason I couldn't find a picture is because I didn't think to type the US version - 'braid' - in the search engine! D'oh! But I still can't find a good one. I wish I had my scanner so I could put up a picture from one of my books.
