Stallion Service Sale 2008
Davinci was dropped off to me as a surprise. But I later found out the owner had been dropping several horses as a surprise because he recently became ill and is trying to house his horses before he sells his house. They are the type of breeders who don't really do anything with their horses until it's time to put a saddle on them. So when Davinci came he was a virtual blank slate. The first time I tried to pick one of his hooves he reared. After all the work I've done with him he finally is coming out with his true personality. Totally laid back and pretty gosh darn "lazy". I can pick up all his hooves and have had the farrier trim him without a problem. He leads but needs some more space lessons and maybe some lessons on giving to pressure. I've had a saddle on him twice and he did absolutely NOTHING. No buck, no fuss, acted like he's had a saddle on many times before. I threw a blanket on him for the first time the other day just to see what he would do, he didn't bat an eye. Just looked back at me for a second and went back to eating. I really don't think anyone will have a problem with getting this guy under saddle.
Davinci is bottom of the herd but loves his fellow horses. He wouldn't harm any of them and even lets our mini run him around. He has a really super lope and trot, nice and slow like a western pleasure horse. He'd be really good for 4H or make a nice trail horse. It only really takes one time for him to pick up on something and the next time you do it it doesn't faze him.
Now on to his papers. He is NOT registered. The owner of the stallion did not file a breeder's report for him. I did get into contact with the owner that owned him before he was sold. They had retained some breeding rights to the stallion but have not been able to contact the owner by mail, phone or e-mail in the last two years. They recommended that I call ApHC. ApHC told me that in order to inquire about getting him registered I had to be a member and went on to ask me how I'd like to pay for the membership. I refuse to pay a membership fee to INQUIRE about getting him registered. That being said, I know that he is not worth what a registered horse would be. With the amount of work I've put into him and the reflection on the economy I'm pricing him at $300 OBO. Sorry no trades or anything as the money I get from him will go to the purchase price of a horse I am currently leasing to own.
This is a REALLY nice horse. He's going to make someone a great riding horse. Unfortunately I have realized I am NOT a stock horse type person. I never see myself deciding to ride him over my draft ponies and because he is so young I don't see putting anyone who rides with me on him because of their experience level. His training will continue until sold.
Davinci with his dame
Just want to chime in (hope you don't mind, Joe) and say, I've met this horse first hand and he is going to make someone a very NICE little gelding. He seemed very sweet, easy going, and level headed. If I had the room or ability to take on another horse I'd snap him up in a heartbeat.
Thank you Indy : )
Very welcome, I wish I could take him myself! :D
Whoever gets him will be lucky! I forgot to mention he is in Western Ohio.
We've decided to hold off on selling Davinci. If we decide to sell him in the future I'll bump this back up.
Yay! I think you'll be glad you kept him :D
Yea, Joe has kind of grown attached to him. lol
Davinci is currently being leased for 4H. He is staying here though.
He is a gorgeous horse..Good luck with him...
