Horse Symposium (lots of pictures and I mean LOTS!!!!!)

Just got back from day one of the Horse Symposium that our local 4-H located and thought you all might be interested in what was going on there.

For session one there was "Centered Riding - Dressage". Mainly where it teaches how to get a good "seat" (or balance point...whatever you want to call it), and learn how to bend your horses by just using leg and such.
Pretty interesting, but the freezing cold arena made it almost unbarable.

For session two there was "To Shoe or Not to Shoe" giving by Sonny's awesome farrier Joe Skipp (http://www.nchoofcare.com).
He mainly covered that it's healthier for the horse to be barefoot, but shoes can help some horses with injuries and so on. He also covered the different types of horse shoes, some of the different types of trims, and then parts of the foot.

Then was lunch. Icky lunch which smelled HORRIBLE. I'm surprised I didn't get sick off of it haha.

Sesson three was on Natural Horsemanship and how to bond with your horse.
The lady who presented this was great. She showed how to help a fearful horse, and to grow a deeper bond with your horse. Then also rode a young mare (fairly green and spooky) bareback and bitless (something you'd never see me do).

Last was Session Four which was "Centered Riding - Western" and it was exactly the same as the dressage one...which I didn't realize until after we signed up.

Picture time!!!

Today is the last section of the Symposium. We are only doing one presentation due to we had church to go to.
Today we shall be attending the "Horses: Sterotypes NOT vices" which I thought was interesting. I'll try to record, possibly what she says, but not sure if I can due to camera battery and not sure if I'm allowed to record...but we shall see. Maybe she'll give us a piece of paper that says what she will cover or some of the stuff that she says during the presentation.

Also, we got a call last night, and we won a book from one of the drawings!!!! It will be so awesome! we are picking up the book today.
Also cross your fingers...I entered a silent auction for a beautiful picture of a TB warming up on the racetracks of Saratoga, NY. When we left I was the last person (and the only person) to bid on it...maybe I'll get it...I hope so, I really liked the picture!

Anyways, once I get back I'll let everyone know how the presentation went!!

The bareback one reminded me exactly of what they did at my Horse expo..... i don't think it was the same person, but she was amazing and how she warmed up her horse and rode bareback (well, bareback pad) and with nothing else it was amazing!! she stood on the fence and said "taxi, come here, i need a taxi" and he came right up from the other side of the round pen to let her on!!

glad you had fun, i liked all your pics

Do you have the name and information for the lady that did the natural horsemanship. I am on my 4-H's County Council and that might be somthing to put on this summer. Did she let you ride your horses with her or did you just watch her ride?

her name is Sue Knight from Ballston Spa, NY.
she did all the riding, but she did have a few people come out to work on stuff with each other (not the horses)
