which of these blankets??
alright so i am looking at getting a waterproof blanket for my lease gelding as asked by my BO. I am a bit tight on the money but i have found a couple im just not sure which one would be best. Where i live i dont need one for freezing cold temperatures but it does get pretty cold sometimes no snow but lots of rain. So here are a couple that i found which would you recommend ????

For the $$ none of them. The denier is what indicates durability and these are very low denier. Here's a link to a company where you can get 1200 to 1680 denier blankets for only a little more than these folks want for 420 & 600. You can also choose weight, sheet/lightweight/medium/heavy for your climate conditions. Euro Style Turnout at Schneider Saddlery Take a look and see if you don't like these better.
Just fyi, I have bought nothing but their 1200 D blankets for the past 5 years and most of mine still look like brand new. And my horses are not kind to their blankets.
dreamcatcher arabians- thanks but the only one in my price range is the last one and its also a 600D
he will only be wearing the blanket once in awhile when we have our weird weather as it isnt always cold enough for them to need one so i dont need an ultra heavey duty one
If he has a shelter he can get under when it rains, he really doesn't need a blanket. If you get one under 600-d, then the water can soak through and he will be colder than he would have been without it.
If you're on a budget, you might look at a canvas turnout blanket, unlined or with thin lining. Spray it with Camp Dry before use to better waterproof it. They're a lot more durable to abuse than a lower "d" rating nylon sheet.

luvs2ride1979-i was looking at that first tough 1 as a possibility also. The blanket is at request of my BO
You might want to try Horse.com I bought a saxon from there its medium weight and its waterproof two of my horse have them and they work great and they were around $60. Also if the products have reviews read them.
Hope this helps
thank you buckcherry
I bought a tough one from horse.com almost like you had on there but I think it was a 600D for 54.99 and the shipping was free. I love it. It comes in a bright lime green and it has been snowing pretty hard today and nothing has soaked through. It had really good reviews too. The material feels really thick to me. He has had it for over two weeks and nothing has happened to it. I love it. Here is a pic of him loving it too. :) http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6093123_n.jpg
Does your BO own this horse? and "why" do they want it to have a blanket? I would also ask them if they want a BLANKET or a SHEET. Since you're saying you live in a fairely warm climet *(CA) then I'd guess you want a sheet. They are more like a wind breaker type jacket, not an actual coat :D
I have a 600D Saxon blanket and my mare rolls on it all the time. This is it's second winter, and (other than dirt) looks brand new still) So as long as your horse has a roof, then 600 should be fine. you can buy used too. Check craigs list, or a feed store that has a board with classifieds!
