SMB elite vs. polo wraps for barrel racing

I'll be doing gymkhana with Molly at fair and practice in my Pro Choice SMB Elites. Her colors are going to be pink and green, and since my SMBs are blue, my friend thinks we should use polo wraps at fair. I bought them already but am having second thoughts as to if they offer enough protection for gymkhana. I know how to wrap them right so that's not the problem. Thoughts?

I pretty much always ride my horses with smb boots....i use polos sometimes, but they are a pain and get dirty easily and dont offer as much protection IMO :/ I like the smbs a lot more than polos ;)

SMBs will offer a lot more support than polos. Polos are more for protecting a horse against a pretty minor brush with say its back legs, or over a fence, however SMBs will not only protect them from much more major brushes, but will also support their tendons.

Agreed with the above posts too.

Polo wraps are more for bump/knock protection. Polo players will often use polo wraps in conjunction with a tendon support to protect legs from getting bashed by mallets and balls, etc.

the Pro Choice SMB's are specifically designed for supporting the tendons during high-impact excercise - like most western disciplines as well as eventing, showjumping, flat-racing...etc etc :) Definitely stick with those. I know the boots also come in lime green and hot pink (because I've had to order some for a client of mine :) ), so maybe if your polo wraps aren't used, try exchanging them? Just a thought.

I reckon that SMB's would be the best bet. They support all the tendons and bones whereas polos don't they pretty much just protect the skin and they don't offer ligament protection like the SMB's do. And also, if your going galloping top speed around barrels and your horse does random flying changes like mine does, SMB's will protect the legs from the knocking them too hard if they stuff it up a bit lol :D

Thanks guys, I'll have to see what we can do. My friend is pretty dead-set on the polos....

I think you should still just wear the SMBs since you will be running. I don't know what offers the best protecting and such but I know that if you are doing gaming events that polo wraps could be potentially dangerous because of the possibility of them unwrapping...

I know they make SMB covers? maybe you could look into those?
pink with fringe
another pair of pink
without fringe

Those are a great idea, I didn't know they made those! We would need two lime green and two bright pink.

Most definetly use profs choice elite boots. They are absolutely amazing, and I love them so much!

You can buy them used for alot cheaper, or you could get Classic Equine Legacy boots which are not as expensive as PC boots :)

I can't find them anywhere in lime green. but if you buy a set of the pink ones and if you are decent at sewing or know someone who is, you could make a lime green set out of fleece or something?
