Tips?

I'm gonna volunteer this week at a stable and if weather permits I will be able to groom for the first time! Any tips? :D

im presuming you mean as in helping around the yard etc..

if so, go and enjoy the day, keep a smile on your face and work hard :D

hey, be sure to take advice....I have a hard time when I try to give advice to people and they just totally blow me off....The least they could do is at least say...oh really, that sounds good...even if they dont do my advice

So my tips are to take advice from those around you...I try my hardest to do so and have grown with my experiance.

your preachin to the choir susan.. you blow me off all the time. it's not an insult because I don't really care...just saying.

I'd make sure you try your hardest, and try your best to be great around the horses!

WelshPonies-Actually I mean grooming like brushing the horse before riding.

barnrat- I won't blow you off! :) I like advice especially since I'm not horsewoman yet!

Well, grooming before riding? Heck, sounds easy enough!

Do you mean grooming the horses before they go into lessons, or grooming at a show?

If you are just cleaning the horses up before a lesson, make sure you clean thoroughly under the girth area and saddle area to make sure there is nothing that would poke the horse once the saddle is on. Pick all 4 feet too!! =)

And remember, when you are working for someone, what they say goes.. and when working with a particular horse, whatever the OWNER says goes.. if you are grooming a horse and some kid walks up to you and says you need to stop... well.. tough nuggets to them.. but if the owner says you need to stop... Stop! LOL Be nice, try not to complain or seem frustrated, and don't be upset if they sorta boss you around and treat you like you know nothing. If you arent sure about something, Ask!! =) You will start building up a positive rep. in no time!

Good luck!! and have fun!!!

this makes me feel guilty...yes...I thought it would not be importent a couple years ago and was wondering why mike was bucking, his more girth area was being pinched and he was in so much pain.....this is a biggy!!!

If you have any questions ask! And clean the horse very well, and hoofs to. Just have fun all day and enjoy being around the barn and animals. =]
