Going Away for the Weekend.

Ok, so this weekend my boyfriend and I are going to Salem, MA. I just about want to cry though. I haven't left Gizmo since I have had him, ever! Especially since he foundered. He keeps looking at me with those gorgeous eyes (more like eye) and I know he knows that I am going and he was really mad at me and first and then he just put his head in my chest tonight and cuddled with me. I really want to go, but I also want to stay. What if something goes wrong. I'm going to be two hours away. My dad has taken care of my other horses before, but they weren't as special as Gizmo. Am I just paranoid or crazy? Does anyone else get this way when they go on vacation?

I felt the same way when my husband and I went on a cruise for our anniversary this past November. All I could think about the whole cruise was getting home to my dogs and Bourbon. :/ Sorry, I'm no help.

No, you are. I'm just worried that I am the only one that is going this crazy about missing their horse before going on vacation. It doesn't help when they give that face too.

I know how you feel. But belive me you will be fine and so will Gizmo :) My horse is 3 HRS away from me at my Grandfathers farm. I have never left her once since I have had her for the 8 years shes been in my life and now shes 3 hrs away and been that way for 2 years :( I love that horse so much. It hurrts me to be away from her.

Oh that really stinks. I couldn't ever do that. That you for all your words of support. We are leaving today after he gets his supper so I get to cuddle with him before I go.

I think you are being paranoid. He has someone to look after him, who will call you if something goes wrong.

How can you enjoy your time away if you are always worried about your horse?

For your future kids sake....learn how to be able to leave. There was nothing worse then getting a kid to babysit who had never been away from his/her parents!

Gizmo, I forwarded this thread to my fiance and said, "see, it's not just me!" You're not alone. I hate leaving Zee or my dog for any length of time. I just miss seeing them! I worry too, not that someone won't be there to take care of them, but that I'll be so far away and won't be able to get there fast enough to take care of them myself.

You're horse will do just fine! horses love people and usually their owners, but not to be bearer of bad news, but he probably won't even notice you were gone. Horses tend to be chilled so he's probably going to be his normal horsey self for a couple days and pleasantly greet you when you get back! don't worry so much!
