Canada to the U.S.

ok so my question is for anyone who has lived in Canada and then made the move to the U.S. how was the process of getting a greencard? what was the hardships? anything that was hard to deal with? how long did it take? i have a good reason behind asking, and if anyone would like to know the full story i'll gladly tell you through a PM.:D

It's my understanding that for someone in Canada to get a VISA to live longer than one year in the USA, a job offer must be made from an American company before being granted permission. That's assuming you meet all of the other requirements set fourth by the State Dept and that could very depending on the circumstances surrounding why you want to move.

(Canada is much nicer in my opinion, I personally wouldn't want to move to the States! lol.)

When I moved to the States, the guy I was married to was my Sponser, and was to "pay for everything". It was $800+ in just paperwork alone that we had to go through, not included lawyers fees to the immigration lawyer we hired. I had to wait a year to be a resident of the state I lived in, and then I was allowed a little bit more freedom.

so you have to wait a year before you can live here in the states? or you can live here but wont be considered a resident for a year?

Well I just upped and moved, and it wasn't really planned...so I can't answer the first question. But yes, you have to live in the state for a year to be considered a resident.
