Getting back in the saddle
Im starting riding again next week :D i havent been in 3 or 4 years although i have been on a few inbetween . im really nervous because i dont want to look like a complete tool! I got an offer to ride a 15.2 on trails then when i start to jump again , i can take it to some novice shows . i wil only be having lessons once a week so is there any way i can improve out of the saddle? thanx in advance x

I bet you will ride much better than you think you will. This is almost always the case. I bet you can ride like a pro in your dreams, right? All I could say is to watch some videos and make sure that you have the physical conditioning by doing some yoga or some good hardy walks.
I started 2 months ago after a 10-year hiatus, and it wasn't so bad. I remembered SO much once I was back on.
-- You're probably going to be sore, especially after the first lesson, so you may want to pick up some tylenol/ibuprofen and some sticky/disposable heating pads. :D
-- I completely agree with tinyliny about stretching, doing some walking, etc. Also, much like you, my biggest fear was that I'd look like an idiot after such a long break. But nope, trainer thought I looked good (all things considered) and once my muscle memory kicked back in, it's been pretty smooth. I'll even go back to jumping in another month or so.
