Horse Bedding

Hey all,

I am doing the diploma in horse management. And as part of my course I have to do a survey into horse bedding. Please could you spend 5 minutes do the following survey to help me with my coursework many thanks :D

Bedding Survey

How many horses/ponies do you own?

What size is your stable?

What type of bedding do you use in your horses stable?

How often do you clean your horses stable out?

How much on average do you spend on bedding per week?

On average how many bags/bales of bedding do you use a week?

How do you store your bedding?

How do you dispose of your bedding?

How many hours per day on average do you keep your horse in its stable?

Does your horse suffer from any respiratory problems?

If there was one thing you could change about the bedding you use, what would this be?

3 horses - 1 donkey

4 box stalls in a 82 X 42 foot barn

wood chips/shavings

daily

$20-25

4-5 bags

comes in plastic bags stored in the barn

manure pile

winter 5 pm (dark) to 5 am - summer they will only come in if they want to - back door of barn is open to pasture and is always open so they can come and go as they want

No

cheaper and possibly in greater quantity than by the bag

Hope this helps

sorry I forgot to add that I wanted to try a thin layer of wood chips/shavings (to absorb the wet stuff) with a layer of straw but for some reason straw is hard to come by in my area this year....hopefully next fall/winter I will be able to try this method

I have 2 horses

size- 10x10 per stall

we use wood shavings

Twice a day

It usually costs us 5.50 per bag and we use 1 bag every 2 days so like 16.50?

3 bags usually

It's in bags and we just keep them in one of the stalls

We dump it in a trailer then dump the trailer down the field

weekdays it used to be until I got home from school but now my dad is on nights he is home during the day so they are out for most of the day and in at night.

No problems

I love to use saw dust because it soaks up the pee WAY better and isn't as messy.
