Horse head throwing
I have found a horse I love but she throws her head when cantering, like she just can't settle, she however knows her flying changes and leads and is excellent at it. Current owners have had teeth done, new properly fitted saddle and her back checked. The bit she used to have was a heavy duty one, I forget which one, however, since changed she has apparently got better 1 month in. They are trustworthy honest people known by friends etc. My question is with a softer bit and more work, she is a 10 yr old thoroughbred being ridden only 3 times a week, will this improve? I don't mind the issue as long as it should improve with correct training and care, as I know if it continues a year down the line I will start becoming frustrated?
She may improve with a different bit, or she may even have a head-shaking syndrome. Could you try a few different bits? Maybe see how she is under a few different riders, too?
