First off, Blu has been horrible with his bits. This week I have tried the tom thumb, dogbone snaffle, and curb bit. I am getting freakeshly frustrated because.....
BLU HAS REALLY BAD MANNERS!!!
During today's ride he bucked a few times and he bolted on me. I borrowed one of Mr. Raban's martingale's and.....
BLU BUCKED AND BROKE IT!!!
So now I am losing patience extremely fast. i just want to shake him and say life isn't all about speed!!! My friend and I jumped a little today. Blu did pretty good on his jumping only he's a stupid speed demon. Another horse can't lop or trot past him without the halfwit having a cow. As you can tell, I am really tired of going through this. I need help. Tomorrow I have to apologize to Mr. Raban because my horse pretty much broke one of his martingales in half. Blu is getting really dangerous. Luckily, I can hang on but what if he does hurt me? I love him to death and I will do anything to get him back to normal but what if this is his normal?
Thanks for the venting...even if you didn't expect it. :roll:
Oh, sounds bad, I am sorry! Maybe it's a physical issue? How does the saddle fit him? Maybe a chiropractor could come and look at him? What does he eat, maybe he is getting food that is too high in energy? Sorry about that martingale! wow!
hope it gets better... FAST!
To follow up the previous reply; Maybe get his teeth need to be looked at also.
Do you get ridding lessons on him? Or do you know someone experienced that could observe him while you ride to give you some advice?
Do know someone that can check him over for back problems?
Has your horse always been this way or is it a new behavior?
I hope he improves soon!
Alright, when he bolts on you, cirlces circles circles, get after him. He freaks when other horses pass him? Circles circles circles, get after him. That kind of behavior is not acceptable at all. I have a horse like that, actually my show horse was like that. You keep trying broken bits. Try a straight bit, possibly a kimberwick that has a small port. It gives you more control. If he tries to take off on you circle him a few times and do it again. If he does it again, circles again. Don't always turn the same way :wink: Try alot of pattern work. Figure 8's stopping and going at corners, weaving in and out of cones. Things that like that to get his mind on you. To get him to work for you, not to focus on how fast he wants to go.
Oh dear Blu, sorry he is being a handful. Since he has had the winter off maybe you need to do some basic groundwork with him for awhile before you get back on him. I have started riding Vida again after she basicly had the winter off. I very rarely do any groundwork with her but I felt the need this weekend after she was a poop on friday. After doing some exercises on the ground for just 10 min. before each ride she was back to her old self by Sunday.
Ok, first thing I would suggest is to get him checked over: back, teeth, tack, anything you can think of! I think in this case, a stronger bit wont do anything, maybe try him in a French Link Snaffle, this has no nutcracker action, so it wont raise in the mouth.
Groundwork! Do lots of groundwork with him, gettting him to stop,walking him over poles, backing him up so he knows you're in charge. Spend time with him, bonding with him, this is what I do with my mare, it really helps for when you start riding them :) If he has had the winter off, then you need to bring him back into work slowly. Do the groundwork first then get him used to riding again :)
Hope this helps :D
Well, his behavior isn't exactly new. He has always had that bad spark in him. I talked to Mr. Raban today with my mom. I cried. Blu really scares me sometimes. I love him to death though! He tried to kick me again. His manners aren't phsyical issues. Mr. Raban HIGHLY suggests that we sell Blu for as much as we can get. I have decided that he needs to go and it really hurts. Back to the drawing board. Today I am hoping to talk to a family friend who owns a ranch. He has a horse for sale and I have tons of questions. I will let you guys know. Nobody wants me to ride Blu because he is dangerous. And I'm not afraid to admit that I can't ride him. He is making me question my riding abilities as well as his. Feelding this way is so horrible and I feel like such a bad person. Am I really that bad a rider that I can't help fix him? He's a hot-blooded horse and he needs someone that can work with him everyday to stimulate his needs. I hate to think this so bad. I've literally tried everything I...and friends...can think of.
It's ok if my horse puts up a fight due to lack of riding but when he intentionally tries to hurt me....I'M CRYING!!! :cry: :cry: :cry: :shock: :x :? :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:
((((((((hugs))))))) I want to urge you to keep with it ....but as a mom, You are always #1 . period. Take care of yourself. :) ((((hugs)))))
~~~BTW no, you're not a BAD RIDER
Awww, thank you! ^
Well, Mr. Raban suggested talking to Mr. Naegly. He recently had serious back surgery and is selling his horse. This horse is about 13 or 14 years old. Mr. Naegly says he's a great horse and thats why he's selling him because he can't ride him. I've seen this horse before at the fairgrounds and fell in love with him. And guess what?
Mr. Naegly told me to come to his house Saturday to ride!!!! I'm so happyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
But then again...am I neglecting Blu? Here's a photo of that paint gelding: (prettyyyyyyyyyy boyyyyyyyy) I haven't gotten a price yet but hopefully its not out of my range. I really like this horse but I don't want to sound head over heels.
Im really sorry for you :( I felt the exact same way couple months ago. I even cried in Thunder's face and felt like he snubbed me off. I had tons of sleepless nights. Til I found out it wasnt him it was me, I had a huge lack of confidence and no direction in training. When someone told me that I wasnt confident around him, and explained the way to handle him when he was acting out, I felt so much better and starting building it. Thunder could feel my frustration also, and acted out from it. Things have been much better now that I have direction and have been training with help. This situation may be totally different. But don't give up! I understand if you are selling him though, but it really coiuld be a number of things.Maybe he just built up a number of bad habits that were never corrected properly who knows. I know you will find him a good home if you do sell him. ;)
