I sorted out my first cow!!!
 

:D:D It was AWESOME!!! :D:D

I went to a rodeo yesterday and competed on my instructors mare, Annie. I entered the beginners sort with my Ag teacher. And as I stated above, I sorted my first cow. After several previous attempts and fails (at different rodeos), it was so cool to finally watch the correct calf cross the line. But then I went into the hole, and let out the wrong cow. :? I didn't realize it and kept trying to sort until the announcer said "No Time." :lol:
Oh well, just got to pay better attention next time.

It was really surprising it happened yesterday, because Annie was being a bit of a brat. (She hadn't been ridden in three weeks on account of the weather, and she didn't want to work.) She did well in the novice ranch riding class, but got scared of the bag we had to drag and refused to sort the cows. I'm still proud of Miss Annie. :D

Anyway, just thought I'd share my bit of sucess with the HF members. I can't wait for the summer season to start up so I can do some more penning and sorting.

Woo hoo! Good for you! I'm jealous - that's something I want to do someday but I've got a Tennessee Walker.....I'm joking with my farrier that we've got her able to do a "spin" in just 40 feet now instead of 40 acres, so we're getting closer! It looks like so much fun!

Woo isn't it fun? I used to team pen and cow daub lol

It is a blast! It's also really fun to watch, especially when the more animated/vocal riders get in the pen.

Once the rodeo was over, I helped chase down a rouge calf that was trying to escape. I love how it is completely acceptable to run, yell incoherent monster noises, and make a total fool of yourself while you are chasing a cow.

I love ranch sortin. Especially done in teams, it is so much fun. I always make very fast practice runs, but once I get out there with the wrong person, doing the jackpot, they always let the wrong cow through the hole. Irritating, but w/e. lol.

I love sorting/penning. Ive gotten into it big time in the last couple months and im loving it!

Ive got a practice tonight and tomorrow night then a show on Saturday.

How is it ran in the states? The point system like we do it in Canada?

My trainer was in Denvor at a show a couple weeks ago and he said it’s a totally different game down there. He is rated as a 5 in Canada and 3’s in the US where doing better than him.
