I really want a friesian
Ive wanted a friesian for 6 years, but i cant decide if i wanna settle on a friesian or buy a dutch warmblood. Im getting into jumping alot more now but if i get a friesian i will go all dressage ... anyone know any flaws on friesians or DWB
Oooohhoooohoooo... good luck. lol Those are 2 of my favorite breeds. XD
I think DWB are more versatile, as in, you could do both dressage and jumping with them. In my opinion friesians are definately dressage horses so a DWB would be satisfying both your disiplines.
I do prefer Friesains myself though, but I'm sure you will find a lovely horse soon and it may even be a Connemara or a totally different breed you didn't even consider! :D
I think if it is between the 2 breeds a DWB would satisfy both jumping and dressage disciplines. I posted a bit ago about wanting one two if you look there I was given a lot of good advice, though I would ignore post 2.
In my research I saw photos of friesians being jumped but also read that because of their heavy gait and feet they are prone to bone chips and Pastern problems. I don't own one yet so can't be sure but that is what I read. I would hate for you to limit your riding because of your horses breed, if you like jumping and dressage you should get a horse that can do both with ease.
Or get a cross breed
I would suggest the warmblood as well, but personally I'm not a fan of Dutch Warmbloods unless they're out of the Samber lines (like faye's youngster). If you want a warmblood I'd suggest looking at a Swedish (like anebel's) or I'm a huge fan of Oldenburgs.
Depends how serious you want your jumping/dressage to be. Friesians are not the best horses for dressage. You can do some low dressage with them but for going higher you'd have to find a super talented horse with excellent movement and lots of room as friesians don't really have any (and that one would be probably amazingly expensive too). They do look good in dressage and I guess that's what makes people think they actually are good in it. They're just not built for it. Though the lighter the type, the more suitable for dressage if you after all do decide to do dressage with a friesian (I don't want to discourage you, I'm riding dressage with my friesian too but I know what takes warmbloods weeks takes us months and we'll never get where they will anyway). But if you want to jump, that's one thing friesians are definitelly not suitable for. But I guess you know that. Overall if I were you I'd definitelly go for a DWB as with such a horse it doesn't matter what you decide to do in the end, whether jump or ride dressage, he will be suitable for both more or less equally. And even if you decide to do one and later find out that's not what you wish to do in the future, you can just switch to the other. If you get yourself a friesian for dressage and later find out you won't be able to do it with him, you don't have many other options to do other than buy a carriage or have a cool looking trail horse.
I love DWB, i also like some oldenburgs but id prefer a dutch.
Connemara is a breed id like eventually i used to ride one in cyprus for 2 years soo much fun!
I think im just gunna look for DWB and later get a friesian, there pretty and everything but not what i need if i wanna do jumping and dressage competitvely.
you could look at the cross between the 2 breeds the sport horse, they're gorgeous and possess the Friesian temperamnt with the endurance and agility of the DWB. I too love friesians but this cross is beautiful!
yea i have seen friesian sport horses and there pretty and athletic
Don't limit yourself to 2 breeds, look at the horse as an individual rather than a breed.
If you want to jump and do dressage, go and look for horses that can do that for you. When you say 'I'll only look at DWB's or friesians', I promise that you will be looking for a very long time.
