Please Help! Jumping Show for the First time! Trillium!!! :) please helpp!! :)
Alright, so this is my situation! I have been leasing this horse for about 4 or 5 months, and i have never showed him but i feel like him and i are really good for eachother! (please comment if you agree or not!!!) and I have never showed him at all, but we are going to our first show on feb. 13 or 14? and it is a trillium show, but me and the pony have connected very well, and have been improving fast, so i am going into trotting or cantering (i am trotting although i could canter) crossrails, but the crossrails in this division in the past years have been super teeny, like way smaller then the ones in this picture, so this is what we look like, but i will be more aware obviously at the show, this is not my best but just an example. so how do you think we will do? and what colour show jacket, and shirt will look good with his colouring? already have one but for when i get a new one, :) okay, please answer my questions, and put in your two sense, and also if you think were good for eachother, :) ps, will not be showing in vest obviously, :P
thanks in advance, :)
ps, he just steps over these, so my two point is off!!!! i know!!! its hard to get low when he is just stepping over it ;) but i will try at the show! look a lot better at the 2 foot verticle, (have pics if your interested!) at the canter, and at the canter my crossrails look better! buuut, this what im going to look like at the show! if your interested in the other pics tell me! i will put them up no prob for you to get a better idea! ;) last picture my 2-point looks horrid!! :/
If this is your first year showing Trillium, then it might be a good idea to do the cross-rails. It will get you used to showing, without having to memorize courses. It might seem easy, but the first year of showing is really hard!
Don't worry about matching your pony with colours, but rather getting show clothing that fits you. I have a navy blue jacket with a light purple shirt, as I feel that I look nice in purple. I am assuming you are doing hunters, so dont go for anything to bright and crazy, but more subtle. Black and navy jackets will always be in, as well as a white shirt. You could even buy stuff second hand so that you don't spend so much if you are still growing!
thanks! and i am doing crossrails, ;) and thanks! i have a darkish gray jacket, and okay! good to know! does that mean my twopoint looks good in these pics for the size of the jump? how do you think i would do? and yeah first show ever, ;)
I've seen worse, trust me.
I like how you keep your head up and eyes forward, but don't lean so much on your pony's neck. You need to depend on steady legs and repetition to keep your seat. Notice how your legs flare out like that? Again, you need to work on steady legs. At a canter, you'd be bouncing in the saddle with legs flying, and could either kick your pony into a faster speed or lose your stirrups altogether. Just a warning. Message me if you want to know ways to steady your legs.
Good luck at your show! My horse is currently coming back into the jumping business after five to six years, and it's a working project. :-)
thanks! i PM'd you! :)
anyone else please? :) would really like to know anything that could help me succeed, :) even if it is brudely honest i dont care, :) would rather get an honest opinion! :)
I think you are off to a great start, kiddo! :)
You are doing a great job of using your pony's neck to support your upper body and I like that you keep your heels down. As VelvetsAB said, you don't really need to be lowering yourself over his neck. The jumps are small. Hold your position but lean back just a touch. I think that will help you a bunch.
As far as what to wear, I think a nice black jacket or possibly a dark green jacket would look lovely with him. I would wear a white shirt or maybe a light gray with the green jacket.
okay, thanks so much for your advice! :)
Since the fences are just crossrails, there is no need to be so far down on your ponies neck. You know when you are cantering, and you have your butt out of the saddle and your upper body is slightly forward? That is your two point position. Right now, that is really all you will need....not right on the ponies neck. So when you go over the jump, just move your hands forward and very SLIGHTLY lean a bit more forward. Your pony should close your upper body when he goes over the fence anyways, so his neck come up to your upper body.
Does that make sense?
Gemini--Green jackets are out right now in this area. LOL.
