She won't eat her supplement

I was wondering if there is anything that is healthy and inexpensive that I can add to make her eat her supplement..it's like a one a day type thing..has everything in it. Anyways, she just nibbles it and looks at me like what the heck are you feeding me.

Any advice would be great.

I pulled her off rice bran and alfamo..also no wheat bran. Just good ol' clover hay

Applesauce? Is it a powder or pellet?

It's a pellet...applesauce might work but the pellts are pretty hard so I don't know if she will lick the applesauce..do you think adding water to mush them up would help?

Are you feeding this with a grain of sorts or just expecting her to eat the supplement alone?

Gidget 01-26-2011 03:02 AM

I was hoping she would eat it by itself...she did with the GI conditioner but switched to this as it has the same thing as the GI conditioner has in it plus other vitamins and minerals.

I am cautious on grain. I have used rice bran and there is safe choice that she likes but I can only get it in another town as they don't sell it here in the town I live in and I don't feel like going 30 min away to buy a 50 lb bag.

What about just grass or alfalfa pellets? I'm sure if you give her a little something, she'll eat the supplement.

oh..haha..didn't think of grass/alfalfa pellets..duhhhhh.
I will try that.
Do you know the price range ..i know if differs but maybe you know how much it runs in your area to give me an idea.

You can mix it with a handful or so of pretty much any grain. I mix senior feed with my QH's supplements and at a handful a day, a bag lasts pretty much forever.

Alfalfa pellets here generally run about $10 for a 40lb bag, orchard or Timothy pellets run at about $13 for a 40 lb bag. If you only need it to give her supplement, you may be able to get away with just a handful. You can at least start there and give her just enough so she'll eat it. Good luck!

well I am cautious as she has coliced twice and we are not sure what really caused her to colic as I didn't catch it right away but luckily I caught it ..very very bad case of colic.
I will try the alfalfa pellets or maybe stick with a bag of rice bran as I know she likes that ..a little too much, haha. I will call my feed store tomorrow and call about prices. I hate to constantly change her feed.
Thanks guys!
