How much is the saddle worth

My mom bought me this saddle a few years ago for christmas when i wanted to try english, i had never ridden english before so i told her i needed a 15"(because that is what my western saddle was and i didn't know there was a difference) so needless to say the saddle was a bit small for me, i used it a few times on my mare, but when she passed away it wasn't a good fit on my slightly swayed backed gelding, so it's been sitting, now i've had a baby and i am not as small as i used to be so it really doesn't fit me now and it's just taking up room in my house...I have no idea how much she paid for it, i was going to list it on ebay, but i don't want to go too cheap, but i also want to make sure i get what it's worth(gotta pay for ridding lessons somehow lol)

So does anyone have any idea how much i should sell this 15" A/P saddle for..i just cleaned and oiled it so it's nice and shinny lol

Honestly, it's probably not worth all that much. It's a low budget, low quality saddle (probably made in India or somewhere in Asia). It is in decent shape, and looks nice in the photos though. The suede padded flaps are not as popular as smooth leather flaps. It looks very much like a Silver Fox, sold new on eBay for $132 (Silver Fox All Purpose English Saddle - Brown - 16 - eBay (item 290526838803 end time Feb-23-11 18:33:45 PST)).

The positive on yours is it includes leathers and irons.

Also, before selling, measure it properly to get the correct English seat size. It will probably measure as a 16 inch which is considered a (small) adult size. 15" and below are generally kid sizes and have a lower value. Measure seat from A to B (center of cantle [seat edge], not corner) as shown here: http://www.thetackguide.com/mygraphics/saddlefit.jpg

Good luck selling! And great job cleaning and taking clear photos! That will help you sell it!

Oh, almost forgot to estimate a value! =) On eBay, I'd say you could probably get $50 to $80 for it (remember shipping is going to add to your buyer's cost). You could possibly sell it locally for more, especially if you have some good consignment tack shops. When your consignment shop quotes you 15-20% consignment fees, don't be too shocked. Ebay charges 9-12% for final value fees (9% auction, 12% fixed price) and an additional 2.9% in PayPal fees.

Equina's info is good. You might try selling it on this forum. There have been a few folks looking for starter English saddles, but few want one that small. It's really a child's size and the gullet looks kind of narrow.
I know how messy three year olds are.
Try 14 year olds!

You're not measuring the seat correctly. You need to measure from the middle of the back diagonally to the middle of the nailhead on the side of the pommel. It looks like your saddle would actually measure a 16.5" or a 17" if measured correctly.

The tree appears to be a wide tree or medium-wide tree.

The saddle itself is a "starter" set, made in Asia. Realistically, with the irons and leathers, I'd say it's worth about $50-75 in our current saddle market. I can buy that same saddle new, just the saddle, locally for $89 plus tax.

I've never measured a saddle before, oops lol, when i measure correctly it measuring 16", which is odd because i know she bought it as a 15" seat and when i sit in it it feels very small even tho my dressage saddle is only a 16.5 and that fits me great ....just wondering, but how can you tell it's a cheaply made saddle? I'm not doubting you at all, because i kinda assumed it was, but i'm just wondering how you can tell for future reference...

Equina, it does look just like that silverfox saddle, i wonder why it doesn't have any disguising markings to tell you the brand

I agree with the price quotes given above.

The cheaper brands do not tend to put a brand marker of any kind on their saddles. Better that people can not tell the brand.

I had this same saddle and I sold it for $100
