So, I have pretty much bought this horse. I just need to get the paperwork together and should be picking him up this weekend! I was just wanting to know what people think of him! He's a 6 year old, appaloosa gelding with 6 months of professional training.
That's the link to his video
Yes it is a two year old but he seems to resist alot. I am not a western junkie though I mostly ride english and show both!
He's cute! I only ride western casually, but he looks like he could be a bit of a handful. Congrats and I hope you have fun with him!
he looks good to me !!!! very handsome maybe needs a little tunning up tho ;) but ya congrats !!!
Thanks! I really like him. He will be getting a tune up! He will also be worked regularly and I have a trainer that is willing to help if I need it!
He is nicely patterned, but I did notice in the video, it looked like he has a high head carriage, but judging by the pictures, he looks like he is built that way.
I do like his trot. It has a flow-y appearance to it. Congratulations on buying him.
I really, really like this horse!!!!! And , I dont' see resistance in him. In fact, I like the way the trainer hasnt taken all the go out of him and forced him into an artificially low headset, set him on his forehand and ruined his gaits by makeing them forcefully slow (read how much I dislike typical WP training methods).
This horse is built exceptionally well. His hind end is to die for powerful, nice long gaskins, low hocks (will be able to reeach under himself) neck is positioned well, good bone in the leg, back not too long (most appy's are a little long). I can really see his back and hips moving as he trots and this indicates healthy joints and loose, swinging back.
He listended nicely to the man and did everything on a loose rein. Very well balanced laterally too.
This is a super, super nice horse and has tons of potential. I WANT him!
Thanks so much! The reason I mentioned a tune up is he has had some time off. He was originally sold as a stallion but his current owner gelded him. I'm really excited to get him home and start working with him. I got him for a ridiculously low price for what I think is a really nice horse. I really like your critique! It makes me feel like I did really good about finding him! :)
He is VERY green in that he has not been worked enough to be able to shift his weight off his forehand and to his hind quarters. He needs a lot of work in that area.
Other than that he is a nice package. He is a solid mover.. does not float, but moves out honestly. He is not a flashy horse (movement wise) but he is efficient moving.
I like this horse.. quite a bit. He does need a LOT of work to get him off his forehand but he is built well enough (not downhill) to do it.
Some of his being on the forehand is the person riding him. He is not encouraging the horse to come up and shift his weight back.. he is sort of sitting there and guiding the horse without asking for anything more. Part of this may be the stage of training the horse currently is, and part of it may be the rider himself.
