Whoaa show stuff?
I just moved to a new barn a few monthes ago and the barn owner gave me a list of the stuff I will need to show. I am in a bit of shock right now though lol. My old barn was pretty laid back and we went to a few shows, and we just brought like the completely basic stuff (nice clean tack, white fleece pad, horse boots, and our show clothes, grooming supplies, etc). So maybe I'm just suprised because my other barn was much more laid back and this one is more serious about showing and stuff but I would just like to know what you guys think of this list (like is this all necesary? will it be expensive? etc..). This is exactly what is says:

The following items are required in order to attend the horse shows:
-Wilkers saddle pad
-embroidered schooling pad (black green or white)
-fleece girth or girth cover
-black folding saddle stand
-Charles Owens helmet (black or grey)
-Tailored Sportsman Breeches (tan)
-black tall boots
-jacket (navy)
-roeckl gloves
-long sleeve show shirt
-embroidered initials on the collar
-hairnet (must match hair color)
-lexol saddle cleaner and conditioner
-shipping halter
-shipping boots
-embroidered baker sheet
-splint boots (or open front boots for jumping)
-equigel pad
-stall hooks
-ear plugs
-fan and extension cords
-whitening shampoo for grey horses or horses with white markings
-vetrolin liniment
-show sheen
-standing wraps
-wilkers quilted wraps
-mane and tail coverings

Sounds snazzy. It seems like a pretty standard list of all the things top level show people would use.

It will most likely cost you but once you have all that stuff you will look and feel great. I'm just a little surprised by the strict specifics like color and brand. Thats the only odd part.

geeze, your barn is uptight! you need a lot of stuff for showing! most stables just say like show clothes and nice tack...anyways, here's the things you asked for. They're not all at lowest price, but somewhere around there.

Wilkers saddle pad-(can be used for the saddle pad and schooling pad I guess)

girth cover-

saddle stand- and

helmet-(cheapest one apart from the junior's)

breeches-(they're low-rise and the cheapest)

tall boots-(they're leather, i think)

jacket-(comes in navy herrigbone...not sure what that is.)

show shirt-(only comes in white)

initials-you can probably take it somewhere to get it done

still not finished! lol!

baker sheet-(at first i didn't know it was a brand! you can probably get it embroidered like the shirt)

splint boots-

open front boots-

equigel pad-

stall hooks-
i couldn't find these. you could check with someone at your stable.

ear plugs-

fan and extension cord-(you can get the extension cord @home depot)

whitening shampoo-

show sheen-(i've seen this in walmart too)

standing wraps-

wilkers wraps-
i couldn't find these either. again, someone in your barn should know.

mane covering-

tail covering-

I hope I helped you. I didn't add up all the prices, but I know it's a good bit of money! I wouldn't be able to afford all this! LOL!

I'd say your list is pretty standard... but I'm surprised by how specific she is on some of those brands and why she picked the brands she did. Your gloves HAVE to be Roekls? Don't get me wrong, those are great gloves but you can get nice ones for less! And you have to get a CO helmet? Most of the people around here wear GPAs! I guess to each their own. But a lot of nicer barns like to have all matching blankets/sheets, etc at shows. There's a barn here that requires you to have a Delgrange or Devoucoux saddle (both around $4000), herm sprenger stirrups ($200), etc PLUS all matching stuff!

Is it going to be expensive? Um, yes. It is.

Almighty Tarzan-
WOW! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Haha you're awesome lol!
I don't think I will be able to afford it either lol, I am going to have to check and see what things are absolutely necesary and all that and then start saving up! You seemed to have found some really nice deals though so maybe it won't be that bad =] *crosses fingers*!

Upnover and tim- Thanks for your opinions =]!

for a start... a little over the top! I liked your old barn's approach.

It will also be VERY expensive! The basics pretty much includes a lot of that (in simpler version)

all of those things sound practical for a big over-night show, but for a schooling show.... BASIC, BASIC, BASIC!

JustDressageIt 04-09-2008 10:36 PM

Holy crap.

I have never been at a barn that required specific stuff to show! I can't believe it!
My CO helmet set me back a lot.. it's nice and will last me for God knows how long, but still!!
I've never used shipping boots, nor a fleece girth cover.
I understand that your stable wants to be "together" and such, but still... that's a little over the top to me. You are "required" to have such things? Crazy. My showing barn wanted us to look good, but that didn't mean we needed super fancy stuff that matched one another - in fact, all us showing girls had different "colors" so we could tell our stuff apart!!
I guess if you have the money... I just know my parents wouldn't have been able to affoard all that stuff when I was showing, and right now I wouldn't be able to!!

Yes, it will be expensive. CO helmets are minimum $200. Those Equigel pads aren't cheap either

Oh well. I'm with upnover on this one.

Oh, no problem. I was bored and it was fun for me. I guess you can tell that I LOVE Dover Saddlery. You can get stuff cheaper other places, I'm sure though. State Line Tack is a bit cheaper, and so is Jeffers Equine. I hope it all goes well with the show season!
