Older Collegiate Alumnus Saddles

Are they alright for schooling? Has anyone ever owned or ridden in one? What price range do they run for a decent one? I'm speaking of the ones they stopped making a long time ago.

Thank you all.

Hello I just bought a used collegiate alumnus for 275 on horseclicks and I couldn't be happier! I can maintain a balanced seat on the flat and over fences. The leather is soft and has no signs of significant wear even though it is older than 10 years. It fits a variety of horses as well. The saddle is perfect for schooling and even alittle jumping if interested. I do wish the suede was in better condition (it has worn suede where the legs rests) but it can't be seen when riding. I even brought it into a tack restoration shop and he said it was in great condition considering it's age. Eventually, I will probably get the knee rolls replaced because he quoted me 75.00 so it's definitely worth it. The saddle usually retails anywhere from 300-450.00 so it's a good deal. On horseclicks the saddle was listed for 350. I highly recommend this saddle!

I hope you find what you are looking for :)

I just received mine the other day. :-) I agree with you, it is wonderful! It fits my Appy mare and my Quarter Horse. I bought it for $200.
