FREE- 52 THOROUGHBRED HORSES NEED GOOD HOMES - Barrnesville, OH.
Hi, new member and saw this on Twitter (of which I'm a member). Unfortunately being located in Australia means this doesn't apply to me, so I thought I'd post it on some horse forums to see if some of these horses can find homes (as I'm a horselover).
I've copied and pasted the extended tweet word for word - please call and deal directly with them. Also if you have Facebook/Forums etc, feel free to share the word.
**Urgent Please Re-tweet** USA - 52 thoroughbred horses need homes. Will go to Sugarcreek this Saturday for slaughter. Gentleman died and his son wants nothing to do with them. Most broodmares are broke and some are in foal weanling, yearlings, 2/3 yrs old most are gelded. FREE & papered. Friend of the deceased is trying to find homes 440-463-4288 or 440-463-4288 barrnesville, OH.
Been told they have all been placed
The family does NOT want any more calls on these horses. They have all been placed. The man's funeral is/was/will be today or tomorrow.
Great thanks - unfortunately being from Australia I was unable to call to verify.
Bumping this so everyone knows this issue is over.
I had a message request on Facebook this morning to put that tweet as my status.
Facebook is still blowing up with this... I'm also trying to respond to all the posts letting people know they have been placed. I've never seen a message spread so far so fast!
I'm rather suspicious of the whole thing, anyway.
50 horses placed just like that? Color me skeptical.
Me too, SR... Why these horses? I mean the original ad was up a week or two ago but still - these horses were placed fast. And the ads are cropping up everywhere by the dozen.

I know...I have had boarders calling me about this, emails,I was really worried about these guys(as was/is everyone else).Id really like to know if this was fake or a real situation...
I'll be completely honest DW, I think it's fake.
There are perfectly sound, sane, and rideable horses being offered for free all over the country who have no takers, so why would people be so willing to step up and take on broodmares and babies?
There's no guarantee these horses would be good for anything, and even if they are it'll take money, time, more money, and loads of training before they'll be ready. Most folks in the market are looking for already started animals, not babies and broodies.
I call shenanigans on the whole thing.
