"Shadowing?"
 
Is this( the markings outlining his patchs/spots) called "shadowing" or what is it called? thanks for any help. :D

Is what called shadowing? All I see is a picture of a horse, but you never specified what, exactly, you were unsure about.

I usually refer to it as haloing.

Guys she is referring to the fadded edges of the pattern.

We call it 'Saddle Stitching' here :) Loki's sire has it around all his markings, he's a black and white Tobiano. It's caused by the Sabino gene.

:rofl: Lots of different names for it.

I get the haloing from dealing with appies growing up. Mostly from spots having a "halo" around them. :-)

My black and white tobiano APHA mare has it, as well as my grade appy mare has some halos around some of her spots.

I've always referred to it as mapping as well. :)
