Learning to Jump
Hello! I was just wondering how I could teach my POA gelding to jump. he's a western horse strictly, but I think jumping would be a fun thing to learn to do on the side. Unfortunately, there is NO ONE here that jumps, or rides English for that matter. I have jumped before and I can ride English pretty OK. I have developed a pretty good seat (in Western of course) and I have fully trained several ponies to ride before, I just have never taught a horse to jump. I wouldn't jump big things, just small crossrails and stuff like that. Thanks for your replies!
well i have a horse , but when i bought him he was already jumping , but i did taught him a little bit ... like i would do a join up , and but a small fence and tell him to go there and he would go , if he do it , i would raise it a little bit , and so on .... but remember my horse knew how to jump i just raised his level of jumping ... so i don't know how to train a green horse that has never been jumping ..
but if there is no one that can train him to jump where u live , i guess you have to buy a dvd for a good trainer =) ...
everyone horse can naturally jump small fences with ease practise free schooling him over jumps on the lunge ect, and then build it up to when you are on him light seat to the fence to hang on his mouth or have no contact a steady rythum, practise raises trotting poles and gradually build it up
