I was thinking of buying one and just wondered whether any of you have recommendations. All the necessities, body brush, dandy brush for dry mud, hoof pick (preferably with brush), etc.
Rubber Curry Comb
Mane Comb (thick prongs with large spaces between them, or a plastic curry comb would work. Avoid the metal ones with wooden handles - the comb part always falls out when you hit a knot!!)
Hoof Pick (I like the plain metal ones - I never use the brush par)
Sponges - 1 for eyes and nostrils, 1 for under the tail
Rubber Curry Mitt (I love using this all over the horse!!)
Small Body Brush (for the face)
I used to use hoof dressing but a healthy diet should take care of the hoof. My grooming tote also has a thermometer (on a string - you don't want it getting sucked in!), stethoscope, note pad and pen, a small scrub brush for cleaning buckets, and a rag. These are things I don't *have* to have or use, but I tend to use them on a fairly regular basis.
I don't use sprays, conditioners, cleaners, etc. unless there's a very specific need for it.
The things I think are necessary for a grooming kit:
You really only need the top list, the rest is just what you might need if you had a grey horse (like I do), or one that likes mud a bit too much for his/her own good.
the kit that i use is :
i love it , it's stylish and high quality ...
Mine has these things:
a stiff brush
a soft brush
a one that looks like this (for the winter coat) https://secure.nepal.is/knapinn.is/i...nd_0204606.jpg
2 sponges - face/body and another one under the tail
a curry comb
mane and tail comb - like in the oster kit
baby oil ( for foots to keep them clean and nice looking, I olso put some on down under the belly)
baby powder ( for the white markings, still I like to use this : Twinkle White Chrome cosmetic cream instantly enhances white markings with a shimmering effect. for a perfect look)
shimmer coat lotion for shows and competitions.
shampoo and a human conditioner
tail bandage to keep it down when it's wet
braiding stretch and a special comb to pick the hairs over to right sides.
this is pretty much what I got :)
In mine I have..
Rubber and Plastic Curry Comb
Mane and Tail Brush
Hoof Pick with Brush
And then some other things..
Mane and Tail Conditioner
Yes I like having a big grooming bag that can fit anything into it XD
