What are the chances of thrush here...
So, I haven't checked my gelding's feet in awhile as no one at our barn really picks hooves during winter because it's just so muddy.
Anywho, he lives in a pasture where it is EXTREMELY muddy (I usually catch him standing in puddles)
I've never known too much about thrush, but what are the odds here... I will check/ pick them out today, but what am I looking for?
I've heard black residue, but it's nearly impossible to see through all the mud.
There's rather good chance of thrush. Just think all the mud and manure is packed in your horses hooves the entire time. Since for me "mud season" has started I try to pick my horses hooves daily and apply thrush buster twice a week to help prevent thrush.
