Bath day and play time
So today it was finally warm enough, and the threat of rain or cold weather was far enough away, that I decided to give Duncan and Ginger baths.
Duncan still isn't used to the whole "bath" idea, so he only got a half a bath. Afterwards I decided that he needed to get used to being tied up so instead of letting him out into the pasture I tied him to the fence next to the gate. Then I got Ginger out. She knows how to stand (mostly) still while getting cleaned. My car was between her and Duncan, and Duncan, tied to the fence, whinnied after her. And to my surprise, Ginger called back to him. And here I thought she didn't like him that much. So I moved Duncan a little closer so he could see Ginger and wouldn't be too upset.
After I was done with Ginger I let her and Duncan out into the pasture. First thing she did was roll (duh). But after that the three of us ran and played. It was the first time I'd ever done that, and it made me wish I was in better shape. I ran after them, and Ginger kicked her feet up and ran, Duncan at her heels. Both had their tails strait up like banners. The got a little ways down the pasture, then both stopped and looked back at me. They were waiting for me to catch up. So I took off running again and when I got close enough they bolted, kicking their feet and holding their tails high again. I didn't chase after them again (as I was extremely out of breath haha), and when they got to the other side of the pasture they stopped again to see if I was coming. When they realized I was staying put, they put their heads down to graze.
I've never felt a connection with my horses, but today I did. It was awesome. And I just wanted to share with the horse community-- my fiance was amused, but didn't really get it. :D
Thats awesome :D
I remember feeling that first connection point with my horse before too. Its a really great feeling.
I wish it was warm enough here to give my horse a bath, he's so dirty!
Glad you had a good time :)
