My New/Old Ferret Louie

So yesterday I got back my ferret who I had given to a friend 2 years ago, I had had him for 3 years before that. I gave him away because I didnt have enough time for him then and my new dog harrassed him everytime I let him out. Well she decided she couldn't keep him anymore so he's back with me. Same house, my previous dog passed away back in October and my new puppy leaves him alone, so it's working this time. Plus I have more time. But this is my 5 year old ferret named Louie, I'm happy to have him back in my life. I missed the odd little guy lol.

Aren't ferrets kind of challenging pets? My kids wanted one really badly, but I thought the way they get into everything and their smell problems put me off. I do, however, think they are really attractive animals.

We had rats, instead. They were lovely pets for the years that they lived.

they are a bit challenging, have special diets, and require a certain bedding. But really they aren't that hard to keep up with, he does stink but with a weekly bath ( ferret shampoo) the odor stay down. He's smart and knows his name and walks on a leash. He's actually a very tame ferret and will let anyone hold him, including kids. He is a theft though, he likes to take things and hide them in places lol. I've always thought they were neat animals.

Well, to be honest, I don't think they are. My Ferret - Little Miss *short for Misfit* is a sweetheart. She is a free range Ferret, her cage door is always open and she is very sociable.

The only issue is the potty training. She is usually very good about going on her littler box, but sometimes she wont make it to her cage, and will go in a corner. I then have to lug out my Little Green Machine and clean it up.

She is adventurous and loves to investigate, but she doesn't make messes and she doesn't get into everything.

Little Miss, and her older brother whom we had "put down" due to Cancer, both had their scent glands removed, so no odors. Sure, they smell like a Ferret, just like a dog smells like a dog and a horse smells like a horse, but other than that, there is nothing offensive about her odor at all.

No special bedding here. We bought her a small stuffed cat bed and she has a fleece blanket that she sleeps on/under.

BarrelRacer, congrats on getting your lovie back, he is adorable!

Thanks MIEventer. Louie's scent glands have been removed so he just smells musky. I find ferrets adorable. If I didn't have dogs he'd have the run of the house, but he gets out while im inside at least.
