I have a horse that has loose stools. I noticed it when I put her in the stall about 5 days ago. I am not sure how long she has had it. Could it be from being nervous because I just put her in the stall? We think it may be from the new green grass?? But, I was wondering if any of you had any advise?
It could be a number of things from a virus (check for a temp to rule that out), nerves, fresh grass that she's not used to, a need for deworming, or sand in the gut...
Does she eat her grain off the ground? If she does then I would do a sand check by taking a few balls of poop and putting them in a bucket of water. After about a half hour you can dump the water out to see if any sand/dirt has gathered at the bottom....
Thank you for replying. Here is some additional info. Horse's behavior is the same. Have not checked for a temp. I do not feed her grain on the ground. Until 5 days ago she was solely pastured. Grass has just started growing about 2 weeks ago. I have been letting her out each day for about 20 minutes to eat some grass, but not today. Actually it is time for her to be wormed. Any additional thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks again.
