How do you explain how much you love your horse?
Firstly, hello everybody! I'm new to horse forum but this question has been bothering me for ages.
When people ask how much your horse means to you, how do you respond? I usually say that it is the halfway point between having a dog and having a child. Would you agree with that? Does that put it into perspective?
for me, my mare is like my child. i explain it to a lot of people, [and this is true] that every time i see her on my way out to the pasture and she lifts her head up and looks at me, i fall in love with her again. i love that horse more than anything. i have nightmares that shes got cancer or i accidentally sold her, its pathetic !
My mare is more than a horse to me. She's gotten me through so much, I don't know what I'm gonna do when she passes on. Call me crazy, but I'd take a bullet for her if it ever came to it. I care about her well being more than I care about my own.
I feel like Gypsy girl too. They are my children, people sometimes don't understand why I don't want to go to holidays or why I buy tones of carrots instead of spending money for going to cinema :P Last month I dreamed somebody stole my horses and I was searching them for so long :( In the end I found them and killed the tiefs with my bare hands. When I woke up I went to check my horses, and it was two in the morning :P

I was thinking a lot too, if I had to pick which one stays alive, my mare or my friend, or niece... I think I would pick Candy :)

I can honestly say I would kill for my horses.
It's kind of like asking a mother how much she loves her kids. Although I don't really think of my horses as my children, per se. Which is probably a good thing, since I have zero maternal instinct toward kids.
i always considered my horse as truely my best friend. My parkner aguess in a way that helps me through anything, that shares my passion and will never tell my secrets :) I just love them with all my heart and would do anything for them :)
If it's a non horseperson asking, it doesn't matter what you tell them because they'll never understand.
I tell people horses are much more than a hobby, they're a lifestyle. Horses aren't a fleeting interest for those of us who really love them; they're a lifelong passion.
They aren't people so I don't think of them as children, even though I've been known to call my geldings 'son' when I'm talking to them. It's just a catchall word for me, and has no parental meaning.
They're pets, companions, friends, and riding partners. But children? No.
I have 5 personal horses. I love all of them - but differently.
I don't do the "horses are my children" thing. They are not children and if it came down to a horses life or a childs, I am realistic enough to know a human child is more important.
On the other hand - I do request that my family respect I will do horse things in lieu on family things.
