I was just curious if anyone here is an exercise rider, I'm really interested in becoming one and I would love to hear about it from how you started to what your daily routine is etc etc.
I'm 19 and working full time for my dad's business right now, there is a racetrack near my house (Woodbine Racetrack) and my boyfriend's dad works there so my plan is to try and get in as a groom by getting connections through him and then eventually work my way up. I volunteered as a groom at Mohawk Racetrack a few years back and had my license and things, but that was for Standardbred racing. I've been riding for ten years and currently ride three days a week at a stable where the focus on eventing. I know exercise riding a racehorse is very different from that, and I need to catch a break to get in in the industry, but to help learn I found this new place in Ontario that teaches exercise riding lessons so that you would have experience, and have a general idea of what you're doing, they also help you make connections in the racing industry to get jobs.
Sorry this is all jumbled, it's just what's going on in my head right now and I guess I'm asking for thoughts, opinions, personal stories or anything because I really have not a lot of an idea about it. Thanks a lot
I'm not sure if they a "Gallop School" in Ontario like they offer at Olds College in Alberta?
That is the best way to learn and get hired.
I would contact the race office at Woodbine and ask them if they know.
