So... Rich was really interested in building some jumps for me, and he really liked the looks of the jumps featured in this thread: http://www.horseforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8384
I have a question, since I am completely atristically challenged.. what sort of (wild and weird) jumps would you like to have?
Rich suggested stuff like:
#1)
On the Standards: Firefighters or Fire hydrants
Poles: making the poles look like a fire hose stretching between the two standards
#2)
On the Standards: Nightstand
Poles: Make them look like a bed
... I'd love to hear your ideas for some cool jumps! Rich is very skilled and artistic, so don't worry about complexity
I love crazy jumps! We've got an american flag jump, witht he poles painted red white and blue and flag-like standards. We have a rainbow jump, with the poled all the colors.
The fire hyrdrant idea is cute.
you guys have some really good ideas but I am used to building cheap jumps which means barrels and wood but I will try to think up some ideas.I have always wanted to. How about like having something to do with tack or grooming tools and like a lead rope for the fence part ? I am not sure how it would look but it could work. Or maybe like carrots and apples and salt blocks and horse cookies on one? Or you could do something with your riding gear like a pair of boots or half chaps or a helmet and you could use a crop for the bar on the fence? I am not sure if you even would like these ideas but they might help  are you going to post pics of the jumps once they are finished? i'd love to see what ideas you use
I just thought of one last night at 10:30 how about a breakfast one that has bacon or sausage as the rails and eggs on the side? I will keep thinking it really is fun!
What about having a horse jump? One standard could be the head to the front legs. The other standard would be the horse butt, and instead of having poles, have planks and have the rest of the horse's body.
Since you're in Canada, have the jump part of it the Canadian Flag and have some thing else for the standards.
those are really good ideas appylover and twinkle toes! What if you used something like caution tape for the rails and had a police man on one side with a wrecked car on the other or something? Or you could do a candy type one with licorish as the rails and mints and cookies and peices of cake ang gummie bears and skittles on the sides. You could use any type of candy on the side and the middle would need to be like a string type thing like a gummi worm. Or I just thought of one how about a construction site? like cranes and buldozers on the sides ans those orange and white road blocks in the middle and safety cones on the sides. Also I thought of a jungle theme like vines for the rails and monkeys and lizards and other animals on the sides and you could use a snake as a rail. There could be plants and stuff on the sides as well. There is so much stuff you could do I am glad you asked for ideas it has been really fun to think of them!
You know those like tootsie wrapper candies? I'm sure you could make a couple of those as the poles and on the standards either have the ends of it, or have Tootsie written or something.
I liked the police and construction ideas too MBD!

Thanks! I figured there are so many diferent types of candy the possibilities are endless! Tootsie rolls would work realy well I think. Your idea about them was really cute Appy! I think that your idea about the horse could work too. It would be an awsome jump!

wow! my jumps sound so boring! i just set them up today in the back paddock but they're just naturals with some sturdy bricks and tyres as standards....i haven't had a chance to paint them...or try them out
The easiest would be to go online and take a look at photos of jumper courses. Go out at Spruce Meadows and take a look at whats out there but I think it would be nice and easy to just look up photos online.
Where are you planning to use and put those jumps??
Wait until you find a barn you like before you make plans to build. The place you might just end up boarding at  will have more than you can imagine

Hehe yeah, it's not in my immediate future to build these, but I think it would be a great project! I've designed a few while at work (bored out of my skull and not allowed on the 'net) and I'm very excited about some.
My trainer's husband has been the one building all the jumps for our second indoor arena to set up huge jumper courses. I know he'd be more than happy to get more ideas
