Questions about leasing

So, after much consideration I am going to lease my Dancer out. I'm doing this because I think he needs more work than I can give him. Also, my hours have been chopped at work so this will help with his care.

I want to be as picky as I can about leasing but not crazy about it. Does anyone have any pointers for me about leasing my pony out? Any questions that I should ask?

This is what I posted:

15.3 h 15 year old Paint for lease. He is very friendly and eager to please. Available every other Monday, every Tuesday, every Thursday, occasional Fridays, and most Sundays. All times are negotiable, I would just like to discuss when you want to come out so our schedules won't clash. Intermediate to Advanced rider. He does not bite, kick, buck, or rear. I have a western saddle and tack for use but if you have english tack that fits, that would be fine. I am looking for someone that loves riding and will treat him well when I can't be with him. Taking lessons with him is fine. Contact for further questions.

Thank you!

I think that what you have posted there is fine. If it was me, I would ask for refrences maybe or have them sign a lease agreement.

There will definitely be a lease agreement. My BO told me that it would probably be best to find someone older who just wants to putz around without yee-hawing! lol

Yeah, good idea. I have had a lot of leasers message or call me just looking to yee haw around, and that was an absolute no go with me.

I found people i knew who are currently leasing 3of mine working out great.
I would say though maybe older rider prefered. If i was leasing i would want to go hunter trialiong hunting eventing etc souns like you dont want your lad doing that

Maggi- I'm still learning about horses etc. and just want Dancer to be worked with more conisistantly in the calm way that I ride him. I guess if someone wanted to show him I'd consider it but I don't have a trailer, etc.

I would suggest instead of saying certain days the horse is available state something more along the lines of....

Would be available to be ridden 4 rides per week, would want communication prior to days being ridden on a week by week basis to ensure our rides would not over lap.

This would give the leaser more flexibility with their schedule and not feel tied down to certain days, as well as you wouldn't be tied down to certain days.

Great idea, Maverick, thank you.

While an older rider is great in a stereotype, there are some fantastic young people out there who should not be ignored because of their age.

I would suggest meeting them a few times and liking the person before deciding.

Definitely, Alex. I'll talk to anyone that wants to contact me. =) I was just saying what my BO said.
